- Lunar is one of the most popular payment solutions in Denmark.
- At Payset, we provide a competing service that fills many of the same needs while offering strong features for small- and medium-sized businesses.
- Our comparison will help you decide which service is right for you.
Lunar is one of Denmark’s most recognizable online payment platforms. It’s known for its popular mobile app and essential banking services.
Since launching in 2015, Lunar has gained traction throughout Denmark and the broader Nordic region. By serving tech-savvy “digital natives” and providing bank accounts for start-ups, it’s become a popular alternative financial platform.
But Lunar isn’t the only option if you want a Danish bank account for business.
At Payset, we offer a different approach. Our multi-currency IBAN accounts link with several regional payment systems so you can transact like a local — not just in Denmark, but nearly anywhere your business takes you.
Here’s what you can expect depending on which service you choose.
Payset Offers Full Mobile and Web Access
Lunar: Lunar primarily offers mobile access. Although its business accounts can be accessed via a desktop or mobile device, Lunar’s personal accounts only provide mobile access. That’s a significant limitation.
Payset: With Payset, you can access your account on mobile or web, whether it’s a personal or business account. We believe flexibility is necessary because our users may need account access on the go or from a dedicated PC at any time.
In short, there’s no hardware restriction on how you can access your Payset account as long as your device or browser is compatible and up to date.
Payset Offers Maximum Global Access
Lunar: Lunar mainly serves customers in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, and in some cases, other parts of the EU/EEA. To open a private account in Denmark, you’ll need to present a MitID, typically only available to Danish residents.
Users can transact in several other currencies and regions that Lunar supports via SWIFT and SEPA. Additionally, users can transact with about 160 countries, but only through Lunar’s recent Wise integration.
Payset: At Payset, we support users around the world. That means you can sign up from 70+ countries and transact with over 180 מדינות with only minor service variations — and even get a Danish IBAN as a non-resident without a MitID.
Payset Focuses on Multi-Currency Support
Lunar: Lunar offers support for various currencies, including DKK, EUR, GBP, USD, SEK, and NOK, depending on your region. Lunar’s recent Wise partnership also means that users can send funds in over 40 currencies.
However, to our knowledge, Lunar doesn’t offer true multi-currency accounts that allow you to hold and manage more than one currency at once.
Payset: At Payset, we allow you to hold any of our 34 supported currencies in your multi-currency account at the same time. Plus, you can instantly swap currencies through our dedicated FX exchange. That’s all there is to it.
Payset Can Handle Your Activity at Scale
Payset: At Payset, we aim to help you streamline your business at any scale. That means broad support for bulk payments ו customizable גישה לצוות options for every member of your company.
Lunar: Lunar offers some room for users to add extra accounts depending on the business plan they choose. However, only its most expensive “limitless” plan provides the ability to add an unrestricted number of accounts.
Lunar also supports limited payment automation, but this feature is primarily advertised for automated bill payments rather than general transactions.
Competitive Fees on All Business Accounts
Payset: At Payset, we offer free sign-up on all business accounts and charge a £29 monthly fee, which is equivalent to about 248 DKK.
Lunar: Lunar’s business accounts come in three tiers. The mid-range option has a monthly fee of 366 DKK (about £42) after discounts. Lunar also charges a setup fee on the lowest tier, but charges no setup fee on higher tiers.
Other service fees may apply.
No Transfer Limits at Payset
Payset: Payset has no maximum on transaction limits, though we may require additional compliance checks for larger transfers.
Lunar: Lunar’s business accounts have a default transfer limit of 500,000 DKK per day per transfer, though support staff can permit larger transactions. Note that Lunar has different limits on other account types, cards, and services.
Access the Danish Financial System
Lunar: Lunar is regulated as a licensed bank by Denmark’s Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet). That means it provides access to many of the same local payment networks as a regular online bank account, including NemKonto, MobilePay, and other common payment channels.
Payset: Payset is registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as an Electronic Money Institution (EMI). This registration model allows us to operate globally, including by offering Danish IBANs.
That means your Payset account can access Danish financial networks like NemKonto, Intradag, and Kronos2 if you meet all necessary conditions.
See this page for more information about our supported global payment rails.
